The Big Island is one of the most interesting places to visit in Hawaii. The Big Island Hawaii has 11 climate zones, making this a great place to explore the natural beauty that draws millions of visitors to Hawaii every year.

It is called Big Island because it is the largest island in Hawaii. Home to the largest dormant volcano in the world as well as sharing the distinction of having the most active volcano in the whole world, the Big Island is a great place to see Hawaii's most incredible geological features. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is on the south part of the island and is easily reached by both the east and the west.

On the west coast, Kona is an area that includes Kailua-Kona. The weather here is sunny and dry, and is home to most of the hotels and Big Island vacation rentals. While this is a great spot to have as a home base for Big Island travel, you might want to go to another part of the island to enjoy the beaches, as the waterfront areas tend to be rocky. Hawaii the Big Island is a great place for sport fishing, however. Also, the Kona area is home to Kealakekua Bay, which has a marine sanctuary, whose warm, clear waters are ideal for snorkeling.

North of Kona is the Gold Coast, or the Kohala coast. The top hotels and resorts are located in the area. The best beaches anywhere in Hawaii the Big Island are to be found in this area. Miles of clean, white sand can be found at the nearby Hapuna beach State Park. To the south, the hot, dry area of Kau is a great place to get away from it all. Kau has no hotels, but there is no lack of Big Island vacation rentals to be found here. Bed and breakfasts also abound here, so if you are looking for a more relaxed, leisurely pace, this area of the Big Island is worth exploring. If you happen to find yourself wondering what there is to do while you're staying at one of the Big Island vacation rentals, you can hike along the coast and explore the Green Sand beach or the unusually beautiful Punaluu Black Sand Beach.

Puna is home to the Volcano region of Hawaii the Big Island, and some of the best deals on Big Island vacation rentals. With the parks nearby and extra cash in your pocket, you will never run out of things to do. You can drive at sunset to the crater and watch the fiery glow of the molten lava, or take a helicopter tour of the volcanoes of the Big Island by day for the most impressive views.

The largest city on Hawaii the Big Island is Hilo. Although these beaches are also rocky, one can still enjoy snorkeling and kayaking. In addition, the wonders of nature within the city are just as impressive as any sandy beach. Waterfalls, the scenic bay and bustling harbor, and the nearby rainforest make this a great place to spend a day or two of your Big Island travel. Some of the best drives on the Big Island Hawaii is on the Hamakau coast. Waipo valley also has incredible vistas, but is a heart-pounding ride, with its roads winding high above the valley.

Nowadays, visitors are choosing to skip the crowded beaches of Oahu and are increasingly making Big Island travel part of their vacation to Hawaii. With so many different zones to explore and natural features, you could spend days on end enjoying the sights of the Big Island.
